Considerations for indicator selection

There is a lack of certainty in literature as to which set of indicators is the most representative of TOD. An attempt has been made to select indicators that represent aspects of each built environment dimension. The the indicators that have been selected were subject to data availability as well as assumptions about the suitability of each indicator in a raster environment.

In order to make the study context-relevant, two social indicators have been included; these are safety and car ownership respectively. A high crime density discourages people from walking to transit stations. Even if people live close to a transit station, they are likely to use private transport if they have access to private vehicles.

Unfortunately, data for demand management (parking supply information) was not available.
